“Even though food production has doubled over the last 30 years, it will have to double yet again by 2025 if it is to feed an expected population of 8.5 billion. From recent statistics, this seems unlikely, as in 2000 world agricultural production grew by only 1%, the lowest since the early 1990s. For agricultural production to increase, several factors need to be in place. These include a healthy environment and sound agricultural planning. A healthy environment entails reducing soil erosion caused by wind, water and over cropping; protecting finite water resources; and reducing atmospheric pollution, such as the acid rain that affects crops and forests. Equally important is making the best use of agricultural land. This requires planning, assessing land suitability and productivity, and generating different scenarios of land use to establish which is the most appropriate in particular circumstances.”
Our approach is to use rich and mixed vegetation to regenerate the soil and increase production. Numerous initiatives have emerged around permaculture and agroforestry, but they are not systematically approached.
The most common approach to regenerating soil (Regenerative agriculture) involves utilizing natural fermentation and incorporating trees, shrubs, rampant, and vegetables. This approach has several advantages:
- The creation of a robust humus that can effectively store a significant amount of CO2.
- The strong humus increases drastically the agricultural production without the needs of entrants.
- Birds and soil help to replenish the natural diversity.
But it also has strong disadvantages or has strong workload implication
- The careful selection of birds, plants, and associations will increase the removal of self-diseases.
- No more than 13 meters wide, automatic planting and harvesting system.
- Harvesting is intensive, with picking inside a careful but horrifying mix.
We believe that the only way forward would be to return to heavy manpower with huge numbers of slaves, but this is not possible. The only way forward is to go for precision regenerative robotic agriculture.
Our objective is to produce a preliminary demonstration and serve as a catalyst for political decision-making at a later stage.
Precision regenerative robot agriculture requires several elements.
- Useful datasets and historical data of recipes for guilds, plant associations, and zoology for diseases removal can be found here.
- Consistent Earth observation is utilized to generate novel datasets that can be adapted from existing recipes. To detect diseases, water, energy, and plant suffering, the EO should be operating in hyperspectral mode.
- Precision with increases PNT for the local agriculture.
- The precision robots will perform the daily tasks of watering, removing unwanted plants, and harvesting via an AI camera system.
We think that 1 robot is needed for each hectare. The demonstration villages we envision should have a hundred robots.
Our Startup Studio, Creaspin, aims to create all the startups required for Precision Regenerative Robotic agriculture to become a real solution for the future.
Samara will provide EO, PNT, and data relay services for an area of 9 km2, which will provide sufficient coverage for a farm. Samara est un HAPS (High altitude Pseudo Satelite) et une des startup en cours de formation.
